Montserrat literally means serrated mountain. The mountains peaks resemble a saw. Sounds lame, but it’s actually very cool! This picture does not do the mountain justice at all. Its MUCH bigger in reality.
The bus ride up to the top of the mountain was absolutely terrifying! The road was extremely narrow and had only a guard rail between our bus and the drop to an awful death. I’m not kidding in the least when I say it was over 20 minutes of horror. But, when we finally made it to the top, it was worst every minute! The view was astounding! The main attraction on the mountain is the monastery – Santa Maria de Montserrat. It was fabulous! So many decorations, full of gold-painted ornaments, beautiful lanterns and statues and of course the high ceilings that make you feel tiny. No matter what beliefs or religions, this place can be a peaceful sanctuary to any one.
This is a perfect capture of the excitement and fear I had standing on the edge of the mountain. It was windy and verrrrrrrrrry high, but for some reason I wanted this picture!
